Tutorial 6: Using Galleries
The Gallery function is a powerful tool which allows you to produce a whole page of images. It is quite simple if you follow these guidelines.
Firstly, you will need to select the right template to do the job. So, go to your 'Pages' folder and select Web Page from the 'Create a new...' section on the left of your Filestore page. Use the same initial template as your other pages, and then on the second selection page select a gallery format. These are usually marked with an open book symbol, or show a layout with multiple images.
We reccomend that you also ensure that the template you choose has some buttons, which will enable you to allow visitors to navigate back to other pages on your site.
Having selected the page that most suits your requirements, you can set the colors etc to match all your other pages by selecting the 'page properties' from the drop down list at the top of the page, and then, where it asks you to base the properties on another page, select any of your previous pages. You will now have a template page to match you other pages.
Now you have to create a new folder called 'Galleries' by selecting 'Folder' from the 'Create a New...' list. Go into the new folder, and create a gallery by selecting 'Gallery' from the 'Create a new...' list. Now you can upload the images (six images at a time) that you want to appear on your Gallery Page. Note, however that the images you upload into your gallery will be listed in alphabetical order of the reference that the image has. If you want your images to appear on your gallery page in any other order you must change the references so that they appear in the order you want in the gallery.
Having uploaded all of the images you require, and we reccomend not more than 15 images on a page (you can have more, but it takes longer to load the page when editing) you can return to your filestore, select your gallery page from you 'Pages' folder, and then select 'Gallery' from the drop down list at the top of the page.
Now you will see all the images from your gallery file appear on your gallery page.
Carry on and edit text, link all the buttons etc. in the normal way until you have it as you want it, click on 'Finish' and give the page a name. Then choose to either 'Save' or 'Save and Publish' your new page.
You can carry on and develop further gallery pages, by adding further gallery files to your gallery folder, and the use the 'Copy' facility in the 'Actions' section on the left of your filestore to create further gallery pages, and in each of those other pages select 'Gallery' from the dropdown list, and then load the appropriate gallery from your gallery files.
If you find that there are more image spaces than you require, then simply delete the images you do not want along with any description underneath the image. This might seem a bit confusing, but if you follow these guidelines you will soon find it becomes quite simple.
