Otter 2000 Web Builder
  Tutorial 1: Getting Started

Before you start to create your web site, take some time to consider how you want it to be set out. The first page you will create will be your Home Page. This is the page that visitors will see when they visit your site.

Don't put too much detail on this page. It is better to have this as an introduction to your site, and then use Buttons to take them to other pages.

Two important things to remember when using this program are DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK - use only single clicks, and DO NOT USE THE BROWSER BACK BUTTON.

Having said that, we will now show you how to create your Home Page.

Each time you sign in to your Web Builder account, you will be taken to your Noticeboard page. Selecting the 'Start Here' button will take you into your Filestore.

Your Filestore is your central store where all your Web Builder pages, graphics and photos will be kept. Each time you create a page, upload photos or other images, clipart or graphics they will all be kept here. Once you upgrade, you can also use the Filestore to store Word documents, Spreadsheets and computer files, so that you can access them from any computer, anywhere in the world.

From your Filestore, in the 'Create a new...' box on the left, select 'Web Page' This will take you to a Template selector page where you can select the style of template you would like to use. (Do not use Create a new Web Site - this is only available to those of you who upgrade to a Business Account. This function can create 5 ready-linked pages at a stroke)

Bear in mind that this is only a template and that your final web pages will look very different once you have personalized it with your own colors and elements, so choose a template for the layout and its components rather than its look and colors.

You will now be taken to a further Template selection page.

This shows you all the different page layouts you can choose. An important thing to consider here is that if you want your Home Page to link to other pages you MUST select a layout that has buttons. These buttons are the key to linking your home page to other pages that you will create later.

Now you are ready to Customize your page.

Go to the next page of the Tutorial to see how.
