Tutorial 2: Customizing your Pages
After you have chosen your template you will be taken to the 'Customize Page' editor. This is a very powerful editor and is the center of your page creation.
First, in the drop down menu at the top right of the page, select 'Page Properties'. Then go to 'Theme Colors' section. This will take you to a set of color selections where you can choose the various colors that will be used on your page, such as background, theme color, main text color etc.
To change any of these, simply click on the color of your choice. If the color you are selecting will be used as a background colour, then you can also choose to use a texture. To switch between a flat colour and a textured color, click the color or texture buttons. If you select 'texture' you will be able to select a texture from a a list of textures.
You can now set the master theme elements for your web page, i.e. Heading and Button Styles. Remember that you can always change these settings later. So you can do all of this as many times as you like until you get a result you are happy with.
When you have finished, click on 'finish' or 'done' to save your page. You will see a preview of your page with the selections you have made. If you are happy with the result click on 'save' to confirm your Home page properties.
You now have a 'Home Page' to your own design.
The next step is to edit the text on your page.
In your 'Filestore' you will now see an icon for the page you have designed - probably called 'Page 1'. Click on the icon, and your page will appear in edit form, ready for you to make the changes you want. Alongside each section of text you will see a small 'edit' button. By clicking on this you will bring that text up in the edit box at the top of the page. Highlight the text in the box and press the delete key ON YOUR KEYBOARD to get rid of the text in the box. Now you can type in the text you want to appear in that paragraph on your page.
You can also edit the font to be used by, firstly, highlighting the text you want to edit and then clicking on the black 'A' above the box, change text colour by click on the red 'A', use bold by clicking on the 'B'. Remember, you must highlight the portion of text you want to edit before clicking on the 'A', 'B' symbols.
Carry on editing all of the text this way until you have the text that you want, in the style that you want on your page.
If you want to delete any text and not replace it, merely click on the 'edit' symbol and click on the delete button by the text box. If you want to add another paragraph click on the edit button of the text above where you want the new paragraph to be and then go to the drop down menu at the top right of the page, and select, for example 'Paragraph' and click on the orange 'below' button. That will create a new paragraph for you, and in the text box you will see 'This is your paragraph' which you can edit in the normal way.
Likewise, you can edit your Page Heading, and the details of the buttons etc. You can also insert images - but that is on another page of the Tutorial.
When you are happy with the page, click on 'Finish' at the top of the page, and then choose 'Save', 'Save and Publish' or 'Don't Save'.
If you choose 'Save' your page will be saved in your filestore, but not published. If you choose 'Save and Publish' your page will be saved in you filestore, and Published on the web.
If you have done something wrong, or you just do not like your amendment, then choose 'Don't Save' and your page will be saved as it was before - none of your amendments will be saved.
Another thing to remember, is that your first page must be called 'Home' otherwise it will not be found on the web.
Now you are ready to Create more pages, and start linking them together.
Go to the next page of the Tutorial to see how. Or go back to the previous page
